Important Issues
The future of Sunset Beach depends on the vision and responsibility we bring to the challenges of today. The issues before us require careful planning, thoughtful leadership, and a commitment to our shared values.
Smart Growth, Not Overgrowth
Sunset Beach is at a pivotal moment. Development pressures are increasing, and the next four years of leadership will determine whether our community is defined by thoughtful growth or overwhelmed by it. I have a strong record of action advocating for and passing enhanced tree abatement regulations, increasing open space requirements, and negotiating directly with developers during the Conditional Zoning process. Building on this foundation, I will work to update the Land Use Plan with community input, ensuring it reflects both our values and our vision for the future.
Transportation & Parking That Work
Island parking and regional traffic remain among our most pressing challenges. I will continue to refine and improve the Island Parking Plan so it better balances the needs of residents and visitors. We must revive Angel Trace Road to help relieve congestion on 904. We must ensure the Route 31 Bypass strengthens, rather than cannibalizes, traffic flow on Route 17. These are the steps we can take to reduce traffic issues in our town while the region grows around us.
Protecting Our Coastal Character
What sets Sunset Beach apart is our unique coastal character and sense of community. We must protect this identity even as development continues. That means guiding responsible growth in the Village (Mixed-Use) District, carefully monitoring Sea Trail projects, and preventing unchecked “strip” development along Sunset Boulevard. Growth should enhance, not erode, what makes our town so special.
